He will take on the faculty editor position at Harvard Heart Letter, the leading monthly newsletter covering cardiology topics for consumers.

Harvard Heart Letter is published by Harvard Health Publishing, a department at the Office for External Education at Harvard Medical School. Harvard Heart Letter is part of a family of monthly publications that includes Harvard Health Letter,Harvard Men’s Health Watch, and Harvard Women’s Health Watch. The monthlies — along with numerous special health reports and e-learning courses — are overseen by Chief Medical Editor Dr. Howard LeWine.

"It’s a great role on a fantastic publication that helps people around the world," Dr. Cannon said. "And Dr. Bhatt leaves tough shoes to fill."

Dr. Cannon earned his MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, and did his internal medicine residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and a cardiovascular fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Cannon has published more than 1,000 original articles, reviews, or book chapters in the field of acute coronary syndromes and prevention, and has authored or edited 20 books. He has received numerous awards, including leadership awards from the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, and National Lipid Association.

He has been principal investigator of more than 20 multicenter clinical trials, including TACTICS-TIMI 18, PROVE-IT, IMPROVE-IT, RE-DUAL PCI, and VERTIS CV trials. He is currently working on clinical trials, registries, and quality improvement projects in the fields of acute coronary syndromes, atrial fibrillation, diabetes, lipids, and prevention. In his role at Cardiovascular Innovation, he is helping implement quality improvement programs using telemedicine for lipids, hypertension, and diabetes, and at CPC Clinical Research he helps lead pragmatic clinical trials.

Dr. Cannon replaces Dr. Bhatt, who served for many years at Brigham and Women’s Hospital Heart and Vascular Center, where he was Executive Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Programs. He was also a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School, and previously he served as Chief of Cardiology at VA Boston Healthcare. Prior to that, Dr. Bhatt held a variety of leadership positions at Cleveland Clinic.

According to Dr. LeWine, "The Harvard Health Publishing team is thrilled that Chris Cannon will be formally joining our family, following many years of his contributions to our content. We also thank Deepak Bhatt for his years of leadership of the Heart Letter and wish him success in his new role."
