You should be aware that many people survive heart attacks, although they can cause lasting, serious heart damage. And sometimes, a heart attack can trigger cardiac arrest, during which the heart goes into a very fast, abnormal rhythm (arrhythmia) or stops beating altogether. If cardiac arrest does occur, the person will lose consciousness within seconds.
