Losing your balance can lead to falls, so it's important to know what causes imbalance. "An older person's inner ears, vision, muscle strength, agility, and brain processing aren't what they used to be. Add to that medicines with side effects, and you can have a significant problem," says Dr. Steve Rauch, a balance expert at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.
